I am kind of a ruse-- like that asian popstar who turned out to be CGI in the late 90's. I only read short stories because my attention span is deaf, dumb, and blind.

I live a pretty simple life. I have a good handful of really decent friends, a small, 1br apt in the city, and a job that pays for it and just enough extra to have a bit of fun with life. I write short stories, I play the guitar (tho poorly), I'm a recovering gamer-geek. I have been slowly but surely checking things off my life's personal checklist. I've watched the moon rise over the ocean at sunset. I've gone hiking down in the Smokies. Every spring I make time for myself to literally go fly a kite. I've thoroughly and utterly failed to write the great American novel. Twice. I may even go for a third, soon.

What else is there to say about myself other than the word "cactus"? Probably lots of other words, now that I think about it. But I am too lazy to list those other words, so "cactus" will have to do.

Being a huge nerd, I love to talk about intellectual shit like philosophy, literature, political issues, science, and feces, or some combination of these elements. (E.g., the philosophy of feces. What does it mean to be feces? Is feces composed of mind, matter, or defined functionally? How many feces can dance on the head of a pin?) Ironically, I have no formal training in any of these subjects, except feces (I have a Bachelor's degree in bullshit). And although I'm not a big drinker (three beers and I'm officially wasted), I've recently discovered that having inebriated discussions with intelligent people about these subjects can be immensely entertaining. Trying to explain cosmology or epistemological fallibilism is much more sporting when your cognition has been degraded a bit!

I am also one of those new-fangled â??angry atheistsâ?? you always hear about in the papers, but so rarely see in reality. I can frequently be found biting the heads off of toddlers and molesting baby seals as a result of my atheism and my lax morals. And yes, I really am angry that I live in a world where people attempt to legislate discriminatory and divisive religious nonsense in the guise of "values" at the expense of rights for homosexuals, women, and others while simultaneously impeding scientific research on fronts such as alternative energy and stem cells that could seriously benefit humanity in the long run. I have every right to be angry about this insane nonsense. (I'm an equal opportunity hater, though, as lefty nonsense pisses me off just as much, be it support for CAM, postmodernism, political correctness, the silly assumption that whatever is "natural" is good, and so on.)

Politically I'm a liberal, and I don't mean that in any pussy-foot sort of way. I value personal liberties to such a degree that I think prostitution and drugs should be legalized/decriminalized, even though I have no desire to indulge in these activities.

I am what many people call a silly goose. No, seriously---I'm a goose. I found that out the hard way. And if you don't know what would be the hardest way to find out whether you are a goose or not, then be grateful for your ignorance.

According to the Myers-Briggs personality test I'm an INTP. Essentially this means I'm one of those introverted, absent-minded professor types, always thinking and less driven by emotions than others. I'm the type of guy that can jabber incessantly and eloquently about philosophical matters, but ask me to do something practical like check the oil, cook, wrap a present, use a hammer, or change a light bulb and I'll find a way to screw it up.

I just moved back to St. Louis on December 7. That made St. Louis the fifth place I lived in 2008, having previously lived in San Francisco, Seattle, NYC, and the Hamptons. Let me tell you, I am eager to stay put for a while.

I now live in a cute little apartment in Clayton with my cat (Macaroon), a red Prius, and a red espresso machine (FrancisFrancis X5, if you're in the know--in which case, message me immediately!). In my spare time I write for a couple blogs and freelance as an editor and graphic designer. I spend a lot of time reading news, blogs, Twitter, and webcomics. I love music, including just about anything KEXP plays (except for on the weird shows), Jens Lekman, Peter Bjorn & John, Belle & Sebastian, LCD Soundsystem, Okkervil River, and Andrew Bird. I love going to random shows and I have a weird inexplicable obsession with Swedish pop music. I also love NPR, my favorite shows are This American Life and Marketplace. I have recently expanded my podcast repertoire and now am addicted to You Look Nice Today, Arrive Having Eaten, and Frank & Erik.

One of my favorite things to do is try new restaurants, the most notable being French Laundry in March. Lots of new restaurants have opened in St. Louis since I last lived here--maybe you and I should go out and try some of them! ;)

I'm an intelligent, inquisitive, and creative person. I'm a huge geek, who loves science fiction, fantasy, and horror, and I have a tendency to get really excited about things that no one else cares about. I have a strong, if dark and quirky sense of humor, heavily laced with sarcasm. I should also warn you that I have a tendency to vacillate between the maturity levels, but in a good way--I can be mature and professional when needed, but when I'm with friends I sometimes like to kick back and act like I'm fifteen again.

I love being outdoors, but I also love anything that lets me be creative or random. Sewing and gardening are two of my main hobbies, though don't let that give you the idea that I'm little Suzy Homemaker. I also spend a lot of time reading, watching movies, and exploring local attractions: museums, theatres, etc.

I've done a fair bit of traveling, and I hope to do more in the near future. I can be adventurous when the need arises, but I usually keep a certain amount of caution on hand.

My political views are strange; I'm very conservative on some issues, and extremely liberal on others, which makes it hard for me to fit myself into any one camp. I don't mind sharing my opinions, though, and even enjoy a spirited debate as long as it doesn't get nasty. I'm a walking contradiction in a lot of areas of my life, and I'm okay with that.

And before you ask, no, my screen name has nothing to do with the X-Men. I love comics, but that's not one I ever read.

I love meeting new people and I will love to entertain you, hey it's a passion. Recently I formed a band that I will thoroughly plug throughout this questionnaire, woo! (Band Name=Invoking Perdition) We're in the middle of a lineup creation, so if anyone knows of a good metal guitarist please inform me. I want to succeed somehow in life and make sure the people with me are laughing or entertained in some way, shape, or form. I enjoy going to concerts, doing the whole band thing, and just running around doing something with: someone, somewhere, somehow. I work night shifts at a gas station, except for weekends yes! Travel is awesome, I love seeing new places and being adventurous.

Recipe:

Basically, I want to start fires, and fights. I want to change the world. I dislike living in houses, and like communities. I don't really care to align myself with any set political system, because why should I? I don't agree with everyone all of the time.

I am weird, and strange, and I once got kicked out of a living arrangement because my roommate said I said too many "off the wall" things. I am quiet around new people, and quite possibly quiet in general, but I am pretty loud once I am drunk. And assertive.

I realize that my profile makes me sound vaguely brash, and possibly mean, but I am really not. I am actually really nice. I like taking care of people, and cooking for them. I often attempt to bribe people with cookies.

I want to meet someone who likes video games, and body modification. Well. . . I'm an inquisitive sort of guy, I love to read (non-fiction or anything with a good story), watch movies with friends, find new hole-in-the-wall restaurants, go to events, or just sit and have a good conversation (maybe over a boardgame or drinks). I've never been able to enjoy working out in a gym, but I always seem to be in motion anyway. I enjoy Ultimate Frisbee and play in the city's recreational leagues. Over the last few years I've tried my hand at caving, biking, rock climbing, kayaking, dodgeball, and backpacking. I have dabbled in a variety of different martial arts, I've even become a black belt in one of them. I'm always up for a walk in one of our many lovely parks, and wait for it . . . I like to dance! Swing, slow, house, funk, b-boy. If it moves me, I'll to move to it. :) Most recently I've joined up with a local ski patrol.

I have an off-the-wall sense of humor featuring lots of pop culture references. I'm usually working toward something, once I figure out what it is that I want to try next. I have an easy-going, generous nature and can get along with just about anyone.

I'll occasionally make up words . . . like 'cattage' for the number of cats you own. Here . . . I'll use it in a sentence. If someone were to ask me, "What kind of cattage you got going on there?" I'd say, "Two, two cats, matey! That be my cattage." (Maybe it was 'Talk Like a Pirate Day'.)

I'm a gentleman, a passionate musician, a voracious reader, a good friend, a movie buff, a detailed planner, a general enthusiast. I have a car, a job (several actually), a college education, and a sense of humor. I am openly affectionate and comfortable with PDAs. I just recently moved back to the city and I'm really glad that I'm back down here. I have the top floor of a two family flat with 3 other people. The company of having people around me most of the time keeps me happy. I tend to stay happy when others aren't around also but it's just much harder to keep happiness without company. I don't believe in any specific religion but have studied and found the importance in them. Though I'm generally working or laying around home with whomever is around, I enjoy getting out and partying or hitting up some clubs/raves. I'm also a terrible dancer but have fun doing it none-the-less.
Some days I can be thoughtful and literate and other days I'm a vegetable that sits around home unable to display my thoughts to others constructively (not literally but you know). I video game when I have time. I watch an excessive amount of British comedy and sometimes dramaesque shows. Eddie Izzard is one of my heros. My kind of music is the best kind of music and that's how I will always think. This prompt is so deliciously (/nauseatingly?) vague. Well, the fish and the snail died (of a belatedly diagnosed parasitic infection and old age, respectively). I've got a cat now (only one, contrary to the check-the-bubble "owns cats"... which is under the cat-lady threshold) who's survived longer than any of my fish and shows no signs of slowing down. I finished up a year of lab research, so now I operate on people instead of mice and rats.
